This is the last Will and Testament of me George Coates of Reeth in the Parish of Grinton i the County of York Grocer and Draper made this Twenty eighth day of July in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and forty two. First I direct all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses to be paid and discharged by my Executors hereinafter named out of my personal Estate And I give and bequeath unto my dear wife Mary Coates as much of my household furniture as will comfortably furnish one Kitchen one Parlour and two Bed Rooms to and for her own use and benefit absolutely And I give and bequeath all the rest residue and remainder of my said household furniture debts stock in Trade Farming Stock monies securities for money personal estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever unto my said dear Wife Mary Coates and George Alderson of Whaw in Arkindale in the said County Mine Agent their Executors administrators and assigns Upon Trust as soon as conveniently may be after my decease to collect get in and convert the same into money and out of the proceeds therof to pay to my son John Coates now supposed to reside in America or to such other person on persons as he may duly authorize to receive the same the sum of two hundred pounds such payment to be made when and so soon as he shall attain the age of twenty five years and then to pay and apply the residue of the said monies unto and equally amongst my three children William Coates Henry Coates and Sarah Mary Coates to and for their own use and benefit absolutely......................shall respectively attain the age of twenty five years, the interest in the meantime to be paid and applied in and toward their maintenance and support. And I give devise and bequeath unto my said dear wife Mary Coates and to the said George Alderson and to their heirs and assigns all and every my messuages or dwelling houses cottages lands and hereditaments whatsoever and wheresoever situate and under whatsoever tenure holder Upon trust to pay to or otherwise permit and suffer my said dear wife to receive and take to and for her own use and benefit the rents and profits thereof for and during the term of her natural life providing she shall so long continue my widow but not otherwise and from and after the decease or marriage again of my said Wife which shall first happen then I give devise and bequeath unto my said son William Coates and to his heirs and assigns All those several meassuages or dwellinghouses and shop with the Garden and other conveniences thereto belonging situate at Reeth aforesaid and now in the respective occupation of myself Anthony Ward and James Hird. Also all that small parcel of land situate in Arkindale lane and now in the occupation of Messieurs Wards and Cherry. Also all that messuage or dwellinghouse now divided into two situate at High Green in Arkindale aforesaid and now in my own occupation and William Dent. And also all that other Messuage or dwellinghouse situate at Booze and late in the occupation of William Metcalfe as tenant thereof I give devise and bequeath unto my said son Henry Coates and to his heirs and assigns All those several closes or parcels of land situate near Reeth aforesaid and called or known by the name of Half way house and now in the occupation of William Martin as tenant thereof I give devise and bequeath unto my daughter Sarah Mary Coates and to her heirs and assigns All those three several cottages dwellinghouses gardens and premises situate in Arkindale lane aforesaid and now in the occupation of John Alderson the elder John Alderson the younger and Ann Peacock. Also all those three several cottages or dwellinghouses and premises situatein Reeth aforesaid and now in the occupation of Ann Alderson Isaac ?Young and John Alderson. And also all that cottage and dwellinghouse situate in Reeth aforesaid and now in the occupation of Ann Hall. And I do hereby direct that it shall and may be lawful to and for my said trustees and executors their executors and administrators to deduct and reimburse to themselves and himself all such cost charges and expenses as they or either of them may be put unto pay or expend on or about the execution of this my Will or anything in anywise relating thereto And that they shall not be answerable or accountable for any more or other monies than shall actually come to their hands nor for any loss or damage which may happen to the said trust monies or any part thereof unless the same shall happen through their or his willful neglect or default nor for any acts deeds or defaults of the other of them but each for his own separate acts and deeds only. And lastly I do hereby appoint my said dear wife and the said George Alderson joint executrix and executor of this my Will and also Guardians of such of my said Children as may be under the age of twenty one years at the time of my decease hereby revoking all former and other Wills by me at any time heretofore made In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year first herein written.
